Goa Liberation day is on 19 December, Goa was liberated from Portuguese in year 1961.  Portuguese ruled Goa for more than 450 years, Revolution for freedom of Goa was started in June 1946 by Dr Ram Manohar Lohia and Dr Juliao  Minezes,  after so many years Goa was liberated from Portuguese operation Vijay conducted by the Indian government with the help of Defence forces.

Why to celebrate Goa Liberation day?
In 15 century Portuguese Explorer Vasco da Gama discovered sea route to India,  and Portuguese came to India.  Started colonies in Goa, Daman, Diu, Nagar Haveli, Dadar and Anjalidiva Island.  Portuguese ruled on goa for more than four centuries.

How Goa got liberation?
India got freedom on 15 August 1947 from British, but Portuguese was ruling Goa that is why Goa was the only proportion of India under the foreign rule.  In 1961 Indian government conducted operation Vijay from 17 December to 19 December with Indian Army soldiers, Airforce and navy and at last Portuguese governor general General Vassalo da Silva surrender to Indian Army when Goa became the part of India, on 30th may 1987 statehood.
How Goa Liberation day is celebrated?
Goa Liberation Day is celebrated like Independence Day in Goa in Goa Chief Minister of Goa host Indian flag, and people of Goa remember the sacrifice of Indian Defence forces and efforts to get freedom from Portuguese rule.  On Goa Liberation Day Cultural Event being organized in Goa and host the Indian flag.
